4 more days.

Well the nurse was right. We must keep the PICC in and have 4 more days of antibiotics. I was really disappointed. I was hoping that he would get that out today. But I need him to be healthy. So it wont come out till Wednesday now. They did change the dressing and it looks a lot better.
We took Christmas lights down today.
I had to get the box of 6 to 9 month closes for Squishy cause his clothes were getting a little snug. Hes getting so big. He is 3 months today.

We are fine

Just to prove that we are all doing much better. Here we are feeling good.

When ever Kyle smiles his whole body gets involved and his hands come up to his face. Its so cute.

We are suppose to get the IV out tomorrow but the home nurse called and there is some confusion about how long he needs the antibiotics so I will be calling the doctors first thing in the morning. The nurse seems to think he needs to be on them for another 4 days, she was calling to schedule the dressing change, but my paperwork from the hospital says 6 days at home. I was really looking forward to getting rid of that thing tomorrow so I hope we can get this figured out. But if he needs it longer than we will keep giving him the antibiotics.
Levi has an ear infection now so he is also on medicine but hes doing really well.
I cant wait till winter is over and we can get healthy and be outside again.

The worst week of my life

So Monday night I had just fallen asleep for about 45 mintues ( I had been up since 4am ) and my phone rings. Its the hospital. Something had shown up on Kyles blood test. An infection had started to grow. They told me to bring back to the ER as soon as possible. I wake Jeremy up. I told him to call his Dad and Sherry to come get Levi cause I was not going to go back up there this time by myself.
They come get Levi and Jeremy, Kyle and me head up to the hospital. I am beyond freaked out. We get up to the ER and they get us in right away. The doctor comes in and explains to us that an infection had started to grow in the blood. It was to soon to know what the infection was so they were going to run all the test again (blood, and urine) and this time they were going to do a spinal tap. To see if they could find out where the infection was and in the mean time they were going to start him on 3 different IV antibiotics which where broad spetrum antibiotics that would basically kill any infection any where and they told us they would than be admitting him for at least 48 hours.
We left the room while they did the spinal tap and the other test in the ER. We than waited in the ER for a room upstairs.
By the time we were admitted up stairs I had been awake for 24 hours and only slept for maybe an hour and half. Jeremy and I were so freaked out by all of this.
Tuesday was pretty much a blur. I did get a short nap. The doctors came in and told us that they had identified the infection and it was a strep pneumo bacteremia. So they were going to do a chest xray to see if the pneumia was in his lungs.
The xray came back clear. They did see the RSV in the lungs but no pneumonia. So that was really good news.
Tuesday night his RVS took a huge turn for the worse. He needed Oxygen and a bunch of deep suctioning. He got a slight fever. So Wednesday we were just managing the RSV as best we good. They were going to place a PICC Line but because his RSV had gotten worse the team that usually does them was not comfortable doing it. So our doctors were trying to figure out if they were gong to put him under general aneasthesia to do it for find a different antibiotic that would not need to be through the IV. Wednesday night his RSV got better. They took him off the Oxygen and he stayed off of it.
Thursday we were just waiting for them to figure out what to do about the PICC line. They told us that the team that usually does them is done by a nurse practitioner and she was the one that was not comfortable sedating him cause of the RSV but they have a team with an Attending doctor in Radiology that was every confident in doing the procedure. So they scheduled that for Friday morning.
He was not able to eat before the procedure so I took Friday morning and saw Levi at Burger King down the street for a while. Levi is not sick with the bad cold and he was every confused about what had been happening for the last week. I knew he was being super well care for but cause he was sick he wanted his Mommy. When we were leaving he wanted to come with me. But I do have to say that through it all he was a real trooper. Jeremy would wake him up every morning and take him to Dennis and Sherrys and than Jeremy would come spend the day with Kyle and I up at the hospital and than Jer would go pick Levi up and bring him home and do it all again the next day. I did not want to leave the hospital room for one minute. But I had to a couple times to keep my sanity. I did shower at the shower they had down the hall. They were so busy at the hospital that we were sharing a room with another baby. They space we had was about 5 feet by maybe 8 feet and a chair that folded out into a bed for me to eat sleep and nurse on.
So any ways his RSV than turned the corner and Friday we took him down and stayed with him till he was sedated and than left, got something to drink at the cafe and by the time we were back up in the room the nurse was just leaving to go get Kyle. When he came back up he was still sound asleep. So we waiting about 15 minutes than he woke up and was super super hungry, he had gone almost 10 hours with out eating. So I fed him and he went right back to sleep. We than started to get ready to go home.
They got every thing ready for us to go home and about 6pm Friday night we were headed home. It so so wonderful to be going home.
We got home and Dennis and Sherry brought Levi home and brought us some dinner. Home Health came and dropped off the supplies we would need to care for him for the next week.
We were all so happy to have our family back together under one roof. It was the best feeling in the world.
And that is the summary of the worst week of my life.

RSV day 3

Last night Kyle got worse. This morning at 4am he had a fever. I was told to take him to Primary Childrens if his fever got above 100.4 and when I took his temp it was 100.5. So I took him up to the hospital while Jeremy stayed with a sleeping Levi.
We get to the ER and they check his vitals and everything is normal. Because he is under 90 days old (by 7 days) they are more concerned about his temperature than they would be if he was older. So then they have to do all these test. They put a catheter in to get a urine sample, they put a suction tube down his throat to get a mucus sample, they put an IV in to get a blood sample. It was beyond hard to watch all this happening. I was of course crying. Kyle has lost his voice so in this high pitch squeaking voice hes crying owe, by the time they put the IV in hes pretty much given up which was even harder to see. I am tearing up just remembering it all
Long story short, all the labs and vitals were normal, they send us home which instruction to see our Ped latter in the day.
Hes feeling much better and I think thats mostly due to the fact they suctioned a huge about of snot out of his nose.
I felt so guilty for putting him thru all those tests when there was nothing wrong, but I am sure I would feel 300 times worse if something was wrong and I did nothing.
Hes still got a bad cough and a stuffy nose but I think hes just as glad as I am to be home.

RSV

Last night Kyle had a little cough and would start gagging when he coughed. This morning we woke up and his cough had gotten a little worse and he was almost panting. So I called the doctor and we saw the on call weekend doctor at the office. Yep you guess it hes got RSV. Hes most likely going to get worse before it gets better. The doctor is not worried about him cause hes such a big baby and he was full term but there are signs that we have to watch for, like if he stops eating, or his breathing gets worse, or he turns blue, or a fever above 100.4. Buts its hard to hear him coughing and than choking on the flem.
Jeremy had a real nasty cold/ sinus infection thing that lasted 10 days and is just now starting to feel better and that is most likely where Kyle got it from. It is a virus so there is nothing they can do but let is run its course. If he gets worse than they will give him oxygen but thats only in like 5% of cases.
Its just that time of year so we will be laying really low the next few weeks to a month.
I am glad that we were able to take him to the doctor this morning and get it all check out. I hope my baby feels better soon. He is a happy sick happy right now so that's good he just sounds awful.

Date Night

Thank you Amy and Jeff for the gift card to the California Pizza Kitchen. We got a babysitter for Levi and took Kyle out to dinner there with some friends. It was a nice dinner out. We all had a good time. The parking garage was a real mess and I think we spent over an hour driving around in circles in there but we had good conversations. Kyle did wonderfully at dinner. I got to eat my whole dinner with out a baby in my arms. We are for sure going to do another double date again real soon.

Do you think thats funny?

I was cleaning the bathroom today and I put some drain cleaner down the tub drain cause I got tired of standing in water when taking a shower. So the drain cleaner made this awful smell like rotten eggs and the whole house started to smell. So I started to open windows which is tricky cause its 35 degrees outside. So I come gagging out of the hallway and Levi says "Mommy I smell something" I say "What to do you smell?" and he thinks about it for awhile and than says "Dinners not ready yet" I start laughing (it was 11 am) now I know how he feels about my cooking.

The other day I asked Levi to sing "I am a Child of God" to Kyle and he starts singing "I am a Child hot dog". I start laughing. It was so funny I called Jer into to hear him sing.

Sunbeams

Levi started Sunbeams today. He had a great time. It was pretty much like nursery with just a little more structure so he still got snacks and played with some toys. My baby is growing up.
We have church at 9am now and after church we all came home and had lunch than took the longest Sunday nap. It was so nice to have us all napping it felt good and we all needed it.

Swimming

We took Kyle and Levi swimming at the Community Center this evening. For Christmas we got a year membership to the Community Center from Jeremy Dad and Sherry.
Levi is getting so comfortable in the water. He really is a fish. Jeremy took him in the big pool and he was having so much fun jumping into the water from the side.
Kyle did great in the water too. He would kick his legs and splash.
